Michael T. Mondak speaks about Bottom Line Bob Nutting
Dear Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey:
Over the last 20 years, the fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates have seen October baseball only three times in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The reasons for why this is the case is the cheap ownership of Bottom Line Bob Nutting. He refuses to sell the team, even under pressure from the fans and politicians. He also refuses to spend money to improve the Pirates’ performance on the field. With exceptions in the aforementioned 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons and the 2019 season, the Pirates have consistently had losing records.
All of this proves why he is the worst owner not just in Major League Baseball, but in all of pro sports, period. That is why something must be done to get to the bottom of why Bottom Line Bob Nutting will not spend money to improve on field performance.
Pittsburgh City Council (and/or the Pennsylvania legislature) should conduct a hearing to find out why Bottom Line Bob Nutting is concerned only with lining his wallet rather than on field performance. The Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred, former general managers and field managers should testify about this matter. It should result in Bob Nutting being forced to sell the Pirates to a suitable owner who cares about the fans and the people of the City of Pittsburgh that have not seen the Pirates win a World Series since 1979, especially the fans who have never seen them win a World Series in their lifetimes (myself included). I would not be surprised if a movie company not named Disney remade the movie Angels in the Outfield at PNC Park.
Thank you for hearing the concerns from a Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Sincerely,
Michael T. Mondak
